University of Richmond
United States
Приєднався 2 бер 2008
For more than 180 years, Spiders have come to the University of Richmond with the expectation to exceed expectations. We invite curiosity and questions, integrating hands-on experience to find answers … or more questions. As a top-20 liberal arts university, we celebrate the idea of a changing and evolving world, and we make it our mission to prepare Spiders to lead it.
Why does studying LGBT history matter?
In an era of "don't say gay" laws, Dr. Pippa Holloway, chair of the University of Richmond's Department of History, believes in the relevance and importance of teaching LGBT history to students for what they learn about courts, the Constitution, civil rights, and America as a whole.

American universities have become the major divider in American society. There were no men speakers/valedictorians, etc. in America. There were fewer Christians, men and especially white men. The system has become racist against the majority of America. It is the reality.
"Ladies and gentlemen, today we celebrate not only the accomplishments of individuals like Kerry-Ann Ratidzo Moyo but also the collective potential of communities and nations. Kerry-Ann's journey from Zimbabwe to the University of Richmond is not just a personal triumph but a testament to the power of perseverance and the pursuit of excellence. As Kerry-Ann eloquently spoke about Ubuntu, she reminded us of the timeless wisdom of our ancestors who understood the strength found in unity and love. It's this very spirit that propels us forward, as we strive to elevate Zimbabwe onto the international stage. In our pursuit of recognition and success, let us not forget our roots, our history, and the traditions that bind us together. Just as Ubuntu Abantu Wines honors the heritage of Bantu tribes through their historical wines, so too can we celebrate our culture and identity as Zimbabweans. Let us embrace our past while looking towards the future with optimism and determination. Together, let us forge partnerships and collaborations that will showcase the richness of our culture, the ingenuity of our people, and the potential of our nation. Kerry-Ann, your achievements inspire us all, and your commitment to putting Zimbabwe on the map fills us with pride. As we raise our glasses to toast to your success, let us also raise our aspirations for a future where Zimbabwe shines brightly on the global stage. May we continue to embody the spirit of Ubuntu, embracing each other's differences, celebrating our shared humanity, and working together towards a brighter, more prosperous future for all. Thank you."
Well done Kerry-Ann 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I think it’s an American thing like each school probably has a team and it becomes the name of the whole school or something like that
I didn’t play football as a kid and now I’ve got to play with my son. Thank god for the internet. The modern dad’s best friend.

"Think about what would change your mind." I found that statement so profound, what a great way to frame a perspective or opinion. To be challenged in a discussion and to be open to it. To not cling to what you adamantly believe is the 'right' perspective but to be motivated and accepting of evidence, even when presented by someone with a different perspective.
